Santa's ready to jump on his sleigh and all members of the family cant wait! To make sure everyone has the best holiday season here's some care tips to keep your furry family members stay as safe as possible! 

 

 WALKING IN THE COLD WEATHER

Wear reflective clothing and think about a reflective collar or light for your dog's collar. Keep your dogs away from ponds and lakes that are iced over - thin ice may break under a dog's weight. If it's snowing outside, watch out for your dogs' paws becoming compacted with snow, which is uncomfortable for them.

PROTECT THE PAWS

Salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice can irritate a pet’s paws. Wipe their paws with a damp towel before your pet licks them and irritates their mouth.

You can also use boots like these to help protect they're precious paws!

CHECK YOUR ENGINE

Small animals and cats love the heat of your car especially in the morning so before your drive off, check all around (especially under the bonnet) to keep you and them safe!

KEEP THEM WARM INSIDE

A cosy blanket will always bring comfort and warmth for your pet! just be careful with heaters as they can easily get to close to these and can cause injury, they can also be easily knocked over so make sure to keep them in a safe area out of the way! Heres some signs to look out for if your cat or dog is too cold:

1. Shivering. 
2. Cold body parts
3. Slow breathing
4. Lethargic
5. Seeking out warm spots around the house
6. Curling up in a ball
7. Mental confusion
8. Weakness

Although some breeds thrive in the cold weather most breeds cannot survive. They can become disorientated and injured. It is also equally important not to leave your dog in the car, cars become freezing at this time of year!

 

FIREWORKS

Some pets do not react well to loud noises so it is so important to make sure your pets and microchipped or have a tag with your contact details in case they run off.

If your dog or cat has severe anxiety you can treat them with calming spot ons or thunder coats help relieve stress (they act like a big warm hug)

Lavender is also a natural calming scent for animals which is a great alternative for medication!
